Sunday Activities for April 14, 2019

Overview:   Virginia Docent Exchange check-in is at the VMFA  in the Atrium from 12:00 pm – 6:30 pm.  Lunch is on your own but we can suggest dining at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts or at the Institute of Contemporary Art.  Tours following lunch are offered at the VMFA, the ICA, and the Virginia Museum of History and Culture. The day ends with cocktails and dinner at the VMFA. Please register for Sunday events and inform us of any dietary restrictions.  

The Details:

12:00 pm – 6:30 pm —  VDE check in available in Atrium at VMFA. Receive VDE materials and Monday workshop schedule. Lunch available on your own at VMFA Best Cafe or Amuse restaurant. Reservations recommended for Amuse.

12:00 pm — or have lunch at the Ellwood Thompson’s Cafe at the Institute of Contemporary Art, 601 West Broad Street, Richmond, VA, 23220.

12:45 pm – 1:30 pm  Docent-led tour of ICA. Registration required. Situated at the edge of the Virginia Commonwealth University campus, the new Institute for Contemporary Art links the University with the surrounding community.  The 41,000 sq ft building is a non- collecting space dedicated to exploring the art and issues of our time.  For more information, click here.

1:00-3:00 pm– Docent Led Tours at the VMFA.  Meet at the VDE registration desk in the Atrium.  Registration required. All tours are 50 minutes.

2:00 pm – Treasures of the VMFA

2:00 pm – American and McGlothlin Collection

3:00 pm – Treasures of the VMFA

3:00 pm – Faberge and Decorative Arts

3:15 pm Docent-led tour of the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, 428 N. Boulevard, Richmond, VA, 23220. Located next door to the VMFA. Registration required. 

The Virginia Museum of History and Culture, founded in 1831 as the Virginia Historical and Philosophical Society, is a major repository, research and teaching center for Virginia history.  For more information, click here.

6:00 pm – 9:00 pm  –  Cocktails and Dinner in the Marble Hall, VMFA. Welcome by Alex Nyerges, Director of the VMFA. Registration required.  Please let us know if there are any dietary restrictions when you register.
